A Palestinian youth was martyred on Tuesday after being shot by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

“Laith Haitham Abu Naiem, 16, was killed after he was shot in the head during clashes with Israeli troops in the village of Al-Maghir northeast of Ramallah,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Palestinian territories have remained dogged by tension since U.S. President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital early last month.

The move drew condemnation from across the region and sparked angry protests in the Palestinian territories -- and multiple clashes with Israeli troops -- that have left at least 20 Palestinians dead.
