JERUSALEM

A Palestinian family in northern Jerusalem demolished their home, fearing that it would be occupied by an Israeli settler after a court ruled in favor of a Jewish association over its ownership.

An Israeli court ordered Abdullah Khader's family to vacate their home in the al-Ashqariya neighborhood of Beit Hanina by accepting the Jewish association's claim that it was built on Israeli-owned land.

According to a member of the family, the court ruled in favor of the Jewish association that claimed ownership of the land and ordered the Khader family to leave.

Alaa, son of Abdullah Khader, said his family was forced to demolish their home in order to prevent settlers from taking it.

According to a statement issued by Minister of Jerusalem Affairs Fadi Al-Hadmi on Wednesday, Israel has demolished more than 81 buildings in East Jerusalem since the beginning of this year.
