Israeli army kills 2 Palestinians, strikes multiple areas in Gaza despite ceasefire
Additional injuries reported as Israeli airstrikes and artillery fire hit Gaza
GAZA CITY, Palestine / ISTANBUL
Two Palestinians were killed and two others injured in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip on Monday, marking a new violation of last year’s ceasefire deal, medical sources said.
A medical source said a child was shot in the head by Israeli forces and died of his wounds in al-Mawasi area of Rafah in southern Gaza. The age of the child was not specified.
The source said a 17-year-old Palestinian was also killed after being shot in the abdomen by Israeli fire and was admitted to Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza.
Israeli army forces also shot and critically injured a 20-year-old man in the southern city of Khan Younis, the source added.
A second Palestinian youth was wounded in an Israeli bomb explosion in northern Gaza.
Local sources said an Israeli drone dropped a bomb on a group of civilians in the town of Beit Lahiya, injuring the young man in an area from which Israeli forces had withdrawn.
Israeli artillery shelling was also reported in the eastern areas of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza and al-Tuffah neighborhood in Gaza City. Israeli forces also fired randomly east of the town of Jabalia in northern Gaza.
No information was yet available about injuries.
Israeli troops continue to control the southern and eastern buffer zones of the enclave and large parts of northern Gaza, maintaining control over nearly 50% of the territory.
The attacks came after the Israeli army killed two Palestinians in separate incidents in northern and southern Gaza on Sunday, on claims of crossing the Yellow Line.
The line is stipulated in the ceasefire agreement and separates Israeli military deployment zones in the east from areas where Palestinians are permitted to move in the west.
Palestinians have accused Israel of repeatedly violating the Oct. 10 ceasefire that halted Israel’s brutal war that has killed more than 71,000 people, most of them women and children, and injured over 171,000 others since October 2023.
At least 464 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 1,280 others injured in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire, according to the Health Ministry.
