Egyptian president, UN chief reaffirm rejection of Palestinian displacement, support for 2-state solution
Sisi, Guterres also stress importance of getting early start to reconstruction process in Gaza to help Palestinians there regain normal life

ISTANBUL
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday reaffirmed their rejection of any plan to displace the Palestinians from Gaza as well as their continued support for a two-state solution.
In a phone call, the two also discussed "Egypt’s efforts to maintain the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the prisoners' swap, and facilitate the access of humanitarian aid into Gaza," said a statement by the Egyptian Presidency.
They also stressed the importance of an early start to the reconstruction process in Gaza in order to reclaim normal life in the Palestinian enclave, contrary to plans to displace them.
Sisi and Guterres also discussed the situations in Syria, Sudan, Libya, and Somalia, said the statement.
On Tuesday, Trump told a news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the US would “take over” Gaza and resettle Palestinians elsewhere under a redevelopment plan that he claimed could turn the enclave into “the Riviera of the Middle East.”
A ceasefire agreement took effect on Jan. 19 in Gaza, halting Israel’s genocidal war that has killed over 47,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, and left the enclave in ruins.
Last November the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last year for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
