Two military pilots were killed Monday after their helicopter crashed in northern Egypt, according to a local security source.
"The helicopter crashed near a village outside the town of Abu Hammad in the eastern Nile Delta," the source, who spoke anonymously due to restrictions on speaking to media, said.
The same source cited eyewitnesses as saying that flames could been seen rising from the area in the wake of the crash.
"The two pilots were both found dead at the crash site," the source said.
The Egyptian military has yet to comment, but usually attributes such incidents to "technical malfunctions".
Last December, a fighter jet crashed at a military base in Egypt’s northeastern Ismailia province. Two crew members were killed in the crash, which the army attributed to a "technical error".
