ISTANBUL

At least 23 civilians were killed and 104 others injured in attacks by the YPG/SDF terrorist organization on residential neighborhoods in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo since Tuesday, a local health official said Saturday.

Mounir al-Mohammad, media director at Aleppo’s Health Directorate, told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that the casualties resulted from SDF shelling of civilian areas.

The dead included a child and four women, he added, noting that one of the fatalities was a dentistry student killed by sniper fire.

He said that most of the injured were women and children, with many cases in critical condition and at risk of dying at any moment.

Since Tuesday, the SDF has shelled residential neighborhoods, civilian facilities, and Syrian Army positions in Aleppo. The attacks have triggered the displacement of about 165,000 residents from the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud districts.

Last March 10, the Syrian presidency announced the signing of an agreement for the SDF’s integration into state institutions, reaffirming the country's territorial unity and rejecting any attempts at division.

But authorities said that in the months since the SDF has not shown any efforts to meet the terms of the agreement.

The government has intensified efforts to maintain security across the country since the ouster of the Assad regime in December 2024, after 24 years in power.
