DAMASCUS

The Syrian Army said Monday evening that one of its military bases in Hasakah province in the country's northeast was targeted by five rockets launched from territory in neighboring Iraq.

Syria Alikhbaria TV, citing the Army’s Operations Command, said a base near the town of Al-Ya’rubiyah in rural Hasakah was struck by five rockets.

It said the rockets were launched from the vicinity of the village of Tal al-Hawa, located about 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) inside Iraqi territory.

The army added that coordination had taken place with the Iraqi side, which confirmed it had begun a search of the area to identify those responsible for the attack.

The Syrian Army said it remains on full alert and will carry out its responsibilities to defend Syrian territory and “respond to any aggression.”

No group has claimed responsibility for the incident, whileas of 2020GMT Baghdad has not issued any comment.
