German footballer of Turkish origin Kerem Demirbay tested positive for the novel coronavirus, Bayer Leverkusen confirmed on Saturday.
"The infection of the midfielder was diagnosed on Friday 4 December after returning from France following the 3-2 win for the Werkself against Nice in the group stage of the Europa League," Leverkusen said on their website.
Tests of other players and staff came in negative. Demirbay has been in self-isolation since Friday and showed no symptoms, the club added.
Demirbay was part of the German national team when Germany won the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
The 27-year-old scored four goals and 16 assists in 52 games for Bayer Leverkusen.
