Polish President Karol Nawrocki urged Israel on Tuesday to comply with international humanitarian law as it prosecutes a war against the Gaza Strip while demanding the UN take action.

Nawrocki emphasized to the UN General Assembly in New York that Poland "continues to advocate for a two-state solution to the conflict in such a way as to give both Palestinians and Israelis the right to live in peace and security."

He urged the UN to take concrete action to improve the situation in the region.

On Ukraine, he called Moscow's invasion "the most serious conflict in Europe since World War II" and said it signals a turning point in the international order.

"The existing international order is crumbling before our eyes. The world has entered a new and dangerous era of rivalry between great powers breaking rules and testing how far they can go before someone says a clear enough stop," he said.

He noted a recent incident in Poland, saying Russian drones attacked Polish territory, a NATO member state, for the first time since World War II, stressing that Poland was forced to respond militarily.

"This was not a coincidence. It happened on orders issued in the capital of a country which is a permanent member of the Security Council," he said.

Highlighting the need for accountability, he added: " We must build an international system of accountability that will not hesitate to hold evil by its name, regardless of the flag it bears on its shoulder. We must make it clear there are borders, there are human rights, there is international law, and anyone who violates it should face severe consequences."

Nawrocki also criticized European policy in recent years, calling out “ideological mistakes” on migration and the Green Deal, which he said have harmed economic and agricultural markets.

The Green Deal sets out a strategy for EU climate neutrality by 2050.
