France on Tuesday welcomed the UN Security Council’s adoption of a US-drafted resolution on Gaza.

"France welcomes the adoption yesterday by the United Nations Security Council of Resolution 2803 endorsing the peace plan for Gaza," the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

It also welcomed the US commitment and "their decisive efforts" carried out with Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, making it possible to reach an agreement on a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and the resumption of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

"The implementation of this resolution must take place within a clear political and legal framework, in line with relevant Security Council resolutions, internationally agreed parameters, and the New York Declaration on the implementation of the two-state solution," the statement noted.

It stressed that the framework relies on respect for international law, international humanitarian law, international human rights law, and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.

"As a permanent member of the Security Council, France played a constructive role in the negotiations on this text. By voting in favor of this resolution, France intends to support the political momentum aimed at achieving a lasting end to the war in Gaza," the ministry further said.

The UN Security Council on Monday adopted a US-drafted resolution establishing a transitional Board of Peace and authorizing an International Stabilization Force to oversee governance, reconstruction, and security efforts in the Gaza Strip.

The resolution passed with 13 votes in favor, while Russia and China abstained. It authorizes the International Stabilization Force and the Board of Peace until Dec. 31, 2027.

Since October 2023, nearly 69,500 Palestinians have been killed – mostly women and children – and more than 170,700 wounded in Israel’s genocidal war that has reduced much of the enclave to rubble.
