Finland’s IT professionals worried about AI accuracy, despite its growing use in workplace: Survey

ISTANBUL

A large majority of IT professionals in Finland are concerned about the accuracy and security of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, even as more than half report using them weekly, according to a new survey commissioned by global tech company HP.

The poll, conducted by research firm Verian in September, gathered responses from just over 1,000 IT workers across various sectors, the YLE news agency reported on Monday.

It found that more than four-fifths of respondents worry about the reliability of AI-generated information, while a similar proportion voiced concern about the security risks associated with using such tools.

Despite these concerns, AI use is becoming increasingly common: a quarter of respondents said they already use it in their daily work, and over half said they turn to it at least once a week.

Only slightly more than a third of those who use AI weekly said they had received any form of instruction from their workplace, with the majority describing their AI skills as self-taught.

Respondents said AI helps save time and improves efficiency, but many indicated they would use it more frequently if there were clearer assurances about accuracy and cybersecurity.

“AI is no longer a promise of the future but a tool of today,” said Vesa Jukonen, HP’s country manager in Finland, noting that employees appear ready to adopt the technology more widely.

“The employees are already prepared, but management and guidance have not kept up the pace.”

According to HP, AI adoption in Finland is still relatively superficial, with most usage concentrated in text editing, information searches, and idea generation. More advanced applications, such as analytics or decision-making support, remain limited.

Nearly half of the IT professionals surveyed said they would like to increase their use of AI at work, provided concerns over reliability and security are addressed.
