China’s foreign minister, US’ Rubio agree to boost dialogue on sidelines of Munich Security Conference
Wang Yi, Marco Rubio discuss stabilizing ties, implementing leaders’ consensus amid improving relations between world’s 2 top economies
ISTANBUL
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Friday on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany, Xinhua News reported.
The two agreed to strengthen dialogue and cooperation in various fields and promote the stable development of China-US relations.
Wang said Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump have provided strategic guidance for the development of relations.
He stressed that both sides should jointly implement the key consensus reached by the two leaders and work to make 2026 a year in which China and the US advance toward mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation.
Dialogue is better than confrontation, cooperation is better than conflict, and win-win outcomes are better than zero-sum games, said Wang.
The meeting comes as Trump is expected to make his first trip to China in his second term at the White House in April.
The world’s top two economies have seen ties stabilize since November, after momentary tensions about Trump’s steep tariffs on countries around the world.
Early this month, Trump spoke to Xi, after the two met face-to-face in South Korea in October, during which the two discussed ties, with the Chinese leader issuing a warning on arms supplies to Taiwan.
