ANKARA
Unemployment rate in Turkey in January 2012 dropped 1.7 points over the same month a year earlier to 10.2 percent, the country's statistics authority said Monday.
Urban unemployment was 12 percent and rural unemployment was 6.5 percent in the given period, TurkStat said.
The number of jobless decreased to 2,664,000 from 3,044,000 whereas the number of the employed rose to 23,475,000 from 22,461,000.
Youth unemployment dropped to 18.4 percent from 22.0 percent.
Participation rate in the work force increased to 48.2 percent from 48.1 percent as employment rate was up to 43.2 percent from 42.3 percent, TurkStat said.
