ANKARA
Political and business leaders from around Islamic countries are preparing to meet in Maputo, Republic of Mozambique, to discuss the activities of the Islamic Development Bank Group (IDB).
The 40th Annual Meeting of the Islamic Development Bank Group will open in Maputo on Monday.
Representatives of 56 member countries of the bank as well as the bank’s governing board members will also meet at this time.
Turkey will be represented by Burhanettin Aktas, deputy undersecretary, Undersecretariat of the Treasury.
Islamic Development Bank (IDB) was established on December 7, 1973 by members of Islamic Conference Organization (OIC) and officially started operating in October 20, 1975. The bank aims to contribute to the social and economic development of member countries and Muslim communities individually in line with the principles of Islam.
The bank has provided finance worth more than $104 billion to member countries in total since starting operations. It has granted $7.5 billion to Turkey. The bank has two offices in Turkey in Ankara and Istanbul.
IDB also gives awards for "Science and Technology " and " Islamic Economics" every year to contribute to technological and economic research in its member states.
