European stock markets ended Tuesday with a mixed course, with most sectors in positive territory.

The pan-European Stoxx Europe 600 index rose 0.1% to close Tuesday at 617.93. The Stoxx 600 Basic Resources index ended over 4.2% higher as precious metals recovered from a historic selloff, with mining stocks leading the gains.

And Italy’s FTSE MIB 30 also increased by 0.9% to 46,420.52.

On the other hand, Germany's DAX 40 was down 0.09% to 24,775.35 points, and the UK's FTSE 100 index fell 0.26% to 10,314.59.

France's CAC 40 index also lost 0.02% to end at 8,179.5 points.

In global markets, uncertainties stemming from the partial US government shutdown and expectations that Kevin Warsh, President Donald Trump's nominee for Federal Reserve chairman, will avoid aggressive interest rate cuts remain the focus of investors. Today's recovery in gold and silver prices has boosted risk appetite.

On the European side, according to the European Central Bank's (ECB) Bank Lending Survey (BLS) report, a critical indicator for monetary policy involving 153 financial institutions, corporate loan demand saw a slight increase in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Financial institutions also forecast continued growth in corporate loan demand in the first quarter of 2026.

In the region, the policy interest rate decisions of the ECB and the Bank of England this week are the focus of investors.

The euro/dollar parity was at 1.181, up 0.22% as of 1840GMT.
