Russia signs agreement with Vietnam to build its first nuclear power plant

MOSCOW

Russia and Vietnam signed an intergovernmental agreement on Monday to cooperate on the construction of the country’s first nuclear power plant.

The signing ceremony took place in Moscow after talks between Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and his Vietnamese counterpart, Pham Minh Chinh.

The agreement was signed by Alexey Likhachev, head of Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom, and Tran Van Son, head of the Vietnamese Government Office.

During talks with Chinh, Mishustin said the project would provide a powerful impetus for cooperation in related areas, including high technology and fundamental and applied research.

Mishustin added that agreements between Russian and Vietnamese companies in the oil and gas sector will allow projects to develop fields in both countries.

The Russian prime minister also proposed continuing efforts to increase bilateral trade.
