ISTANBUL

Malaysia has evacuated more than 4,600 people due to floods in the eastern province of Sabah as the weather situation worsened on Saturday.

The State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said the number of flood victims had increased to 4,652 people in the state by Saturday evening, reported the state-run news agency Bernama.

In another eastern state, Sarawak, 63 people have been evacuated to a first relief center.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department last Wednesday forecast that humid conditions would persist in Sabah and Sarawak throughout this week, with rainfall expected in several areas following the arrival of monsoon winds.
