Amid tariff threat, Taiwan to support companies planning to relocate to US
Move coincides with Trump's tariff threat to bring semiconductor, chip and pharmaceutical production back to US

KARACHI, Pakistan
Taiwan on Monday said it will support companies that plan to relocate to the US, including helping them find partners, following US President Donald Trump's tariff threat.
The island's Economic Affairs Ministry said it will provide customized services for manufacturers' overseas layout, relevant information and observations on target markets for Taiwanese companies that intend to re-deploy overseas, such as moving to the US to set up factories.
"Such services will also be provided to the manufacturers considering moving some processes to other countries, such as Southeast Asia and India, including possible states and local investment laws in the US, opportunities in related markets, and assistance in finding partners," it said in a statement.
The ministry will establish a special service team and hotline to provide consultation and immediate services to affected companies.
It will also establish an investment and trade service center in the US to assist in the overseas layout of supply chains.
The ministry "will continue to closely monitor changes in international trade and maintain communication with the industry to provide Taiwanese businessmen with the most timely support and assistance to ensure that companies find the best response strategies amid the changing situation," the statement concluded.
The move coincides with Trump's tariffs threat to bring semiconductor, chip and pharmaceutical production back to the US, arguing that many companies have relocated to Taiwan.
"They left us and went to Taiwan, which is about 90% of the chip business, and we want them to come back,” said Trump.
Taiwanese Premier Cho Jung-tai earlier said that Taipei remains a crucial part of the global semiconductor supply chain as the government prepares to discuss potential US tariffs threatened by Trump.
The semiconductor industry accounted for 65.2% of Taiwan’s total sales in 2024.
