MERCEDES-BENZ TO MANUFACTURE "ACTROS" TRUCKS IN TURKEY
AKSARAY - Mercedes-Benz, a leading motor vehicles
manufacturer in the world, will manufacture its "Actros" trucks in
central Anatolian province of Aksaray.
Wolf-Dieter Kurz, president of Mercedes-Benz Turkish Board of Directors, said Wednesday that they widened the variety of products at the truck factory in Aksaray and announced that "Actros" of Mercedes-Benz trucks would start to be manufactured in Aksaray by the end of the year.
Kurz told a news conference at the Aksaray Truck Factor of Mercedes-Benz that the manufacturing started at the factory in 1986.
He said the factory had manufactured more than 120,000 trucks since it was established, indicating that 22,000 trucks were exported.
Kurz said "Atego" and "Axor" models of Mercedes-Benz were the leading trucks of the market.
Following conclusion of preparations, manufacturing will begin at the end of 2010, Kurz said and noted that this decision once again underlined confidence of Daimler in both the Mercedes-Benz Turk and Turkey and at the same time emphasized the strategic importance attached to Turkey market.
"Manufacturing of Actros trucks in Aksaray will strengthen our position in the market and will have important contributions to Turkey's automotive sector and development of Aksaray," Kurz said.
The Mercedes-Benz Actros is a heavy duty truck introduced by Mercedes-Benz in 1996. It is normally used for long-distance haulage, heavy duty distribution haulage and construction haulage. It is available in weights starting at 18 tonnes and is powered by a V6 or V8 cylinder engine with turbo and intercooler. Mercedes-Benz launched Actros II in 2002.
