After serving 45 years in House, Hoyer says he decided not to seek another term
WASHINGTON
US Rep. Steny Hoyer on Thursday announced that he will retire from Congress after a 45-year career in the lower chamber.
"I have decided not to seek another term in the People's House," Hoyer, 86, said on US social media company X.
Hoyer, who represents Maryland’s 5th Congressional District, said it has been "my great privilege and sacred responsibility for 45 years."
"Thank you for electing me as your Congressman 23 times," the Democrat added.
