The army of Guinea-Bissau announced Friday that it thwarted a coup attempt involving several officers, according to media reports.
Army generals in a live-streamed news conference denounced “another attempt to subvert the constitutional order” ahead of the elections scheduled for Nov. 23.
Deputy Chief of Staff Gen. Mamadu Ture said investigations were underway and all involved would be arrested, Bissau-Guinean news portal, Capital News reported.
Several officers were arrested in recent days, including the head of the military school in Cumere, Gen. Daba Na Walna, for their alleged involvement in the coup attempt.
