Turkmenistan’s ruling party fields president’s son to contest presidential elections
Serdar Berdimuhamedov chosen by members of ruling Democratic Party of Turkmenistan at 9th extraordinary congress

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan
Turkmenistan’s ruling party has fielded the son of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow to contest presidential elections scheduled on March 12, local sources said Monday.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov currently holds the post of deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers.
At the 9th extraordinary congress of the ruling Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, it was decided to field Serdar for the post of head of state.
Thanking the congress members, he said: "If I am elected president, I assure you that I will work for the people of our country, based on the heritage and principles of our ancestors, our country.”
“My main goal is to develop our state and ensure that our people lead a prosperous life,” he said.
