SUEZ (AA) - A precarious calm prevailed in the canal city of Suez early Thursday following clashes between supporters and opponents of ousted President Mohamed Morsi.
One person was killed and scores were injured when pro- and anti-Morsi demonstrators clashed in central Suez on Wednesday.
Facades of several shops and cars were smashed in the violence.
Army and police forces were deployed to the area to quell the violence.
Morsi, Egypt's first democratically elected president, was deposed by the country's military establishment on July 3 after massive and well-coordinated protests against his presidency.
The unconstitutional change of government is described by the ousted president's backers as a "military coup," while supporters of the move call it a military-backed "popular uprising."
