TRIPOLI (AA) - A group of angry protesters tried to storm the Russian Embassy in Tripoli, Libya, on Wednesday following a media report that a Russian woman killed a Libyan military official.
Libyan security forces fired on protesters, wounding four of them. One of the wounded later died at a hospital, according to health officials.
The Interior Ministry Supreme Security Council President Hashim Bisr told an Anadolu Agency correspondent that security officials prevented angry protesters from breaching the embassy and took necessary measures around the building.
Bisr said security forces wanted to escort Russian diplomats out of the building but the Russian Foreign Ministry barred diplomats from leaving the embassy.
A Russian woman killed Muhammad Susi, a military officer, when he was at home and wounded his mother on September 30, according to media reports.
After the protest ended, some demonstrators opened fire on the convoy of Prime Minister Ali Zidan and Foreign Minister Mohammed Abdulaziz, according to eyewitnesses.
Bisr stated that they believed the killing of the Libyan officer politically motivated.
