Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi declared a month-long state of emergency in three cities of Suez, Ismailia and Port Said on Sunday after the killing of 47 people in the country since Friday
Morsi announced the state of emergency via tv while clashes between protestors and the police continued in different parts of the country.
He stressed, for a month-long, a nightly curfew would be applied in the cities of Suez, Ismailia and Port Said, between the hours of 09.00 PM and 6.00 AM.
Morsi said, "If I was not on duty bound to do, I would not take such decisions. These decisions are taken in the scope of protecting people and for the security of the community."
Morsi stressed, "There is no room for hesitation, so that everybody knows the institution of the state is capable of protecting the citizens. If I see that the homeland and its children are in danger, I will be obliged to do more than that. For the sake of Egypt, I will."
Anti-government violence has caused the death of high number of protestors, and many others were injured since Friday.
On Sunday, the violence has escalated in the streets of Port Said.
The Egyptian court's verdict sentencing 21 individuals to death in the Port Said case led to violent protests.
According to latest results that since Friday, 47 people lost their lives and 433 were injured in ensuing protests.
