Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed Moscow’s “role in building a multipolar world” with members of the country’s Security Council during a meeting in Moscow on Monday.

“We have two items on the agenda today. The first one deals with current issues in the security sphere, and the second concerns our role in building a multipolar world and our actions in this regard,” Putin said, opening the meeting via videolink.

He then proposed starting with the second item and invited Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov “to share his thoughts on this point.”

The meeting comes ahead of expected Tuesday talks on Ukraine between Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriyev and US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. Putin often convenes Russian Security Council meetings ahead of international talks to coordinate Moscow's position.
