Outgoing US President Joe Biden has authorized Ukraine to use long-range missiles supplied by the US for "limited strikes" within Russian territory in a major policy shift, US media reported.
The decision follows reports of North Korea sending troops to support Moscow’s war effort, The Washington Post said, citing two US officials.
A senior US official said the move also aims to deter further North Korean involvement in Russia's war on Ukraine, which was launched in February 2022.
Previously, Washington opposed Ukraine using the long-range Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) against Russian targets, citing concerns over potential retaliation from Russia.
South Korea claimed that North Korea has been jamming its Global Positioning System (GPS) across the border for the 10th consecutive day.
The South Korean military detected GPS jamming in the northern part of Gangwon Province, Seoul-based Yonhap News reported.
Last week, Seoul’s military said it had identified over 300 cases of GPS disruptions allegedly caused by longtime rival North Korea this month.
Outgoing US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in the Peruvian capital of Lima as Washington braces for the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump.
The meeting took place on the margins of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, which brought together leaders from 21 nations this week.
It is the third in-person meeting between the two leaders since Biden took office in January 2021 and will be the final such meeting for the US president.
