A Malaysian man has told how he crawled for three days to find help after being involved in a car crash that killed his friend, local media reported Friday.
The 33-year-old, named as A. Nicholas Andrew, dragged himself through thick jungle with a broken arm and leg, drinking water from a stream and sleeping under the forest canopy.
Andrew, who works on an army base, was travelling on the Kuala Lumpur–Ipoh expressway towards Tapah with best friend R. Thiyagarajan, 34, Sunday when their car plunged down a 20-meter ravine, killing Thiyagarajan and throwing Andrew from the vehicle.
After three days of slow progress, Andrew came across an aboriginal village Wednesday, he told Malaysian media.
Talking to reporters at Teluk Intan Hospital in western Perak state, Andrew said he was headed home after delivering invitations to his brother’s wedding when he lost control of the car.
"When I opened my eyes, I found myself lying outside the car. I tried calling out to my friend but there was no response," he said.
He decided to crawl along a riverbank after finding himself unable to climb the ravine due to pain from his injuries.
“I screamed for help when I saw the villagers and they rushed over to help me,” he added.
Firefighters later found Thiyagarajan dead in the car.
