ROME (AA) - Divers have finished their search on the boat which went down with over 500 refugees off the island of Lampedusa last week, ANSA news agency reports.
It quotes port authorities on the island as saying 309 bodies have been recovered, with rescue teams still searching the area that surrounds the submerged boat, which lies 47 meters deep.
The boat that sank on Oct 2 is believed to have been carrying 518 people, mostly Eritreans and Somalis, with only 155 surviving the disaster.
Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta and the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso on Wednesday visited the island, where they were heckled over refugee policies.
