PARIS (AA) - French parliament is discussing the country's options in responding to a chemical weapons attack that killed hundreds of people last week in Syria. French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said France was determined to carry out punitive action against the Syrian government, which it holds responsible for the attack. The parliamentary debate will not result in a vote, Ayrault said. President Francois Hollande has been under pressure to consult the parliament after UK MPs voted against military action, while the US Congress will vote next week. Ayrault said France would not act alone, and reiterated the parliament's position that the planned military action should be "decisive and proportionate." French Prime Minister added that President Hollande would work at the G-20 summit to have as broad an alliance as possible backing action in Syria. The summit will start on Thursday in the Russian capital of Moscow.
