LONDON
Carwyn Jones, the First Minister of Wales, has said they consider Turkey one of the main economic drivers in Europe in the upcoming years.
Speaking to AA on Tuesday prior to his visit to Turkey that will begin on Wednesday, Jones said Turkey was "a very important country" that offers trade and investment opportunities.
He said Turkey's economy had been growing very strongly and added he would assess the investment and business chances among Turkey and the UK during his visit.
"We consider Turkey one of the main economic drivers in Europe in the upcoming years," said Jones, and added based on that they would look for ways to boost bilateral investment and trade.
Reminding that the Wales supports Turkey's EU bid, Jones noted that especially Turkish businessmen's travelling to the UK easily was important for enhancing trade between the two countries. He added Turkey's being a full EU member would enhance the trade and make it easier.
A member of the Labour Party, Jones will visit Turkey on January 16-18. He is expected to meet with Turkey's Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan.
Carwyn Jones (45) has been the First Minister of Wales since 2009.
