LONDON (AA) - Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate, have appeared in front of the world with their new baby boy.
Hundreds of photojournalists and cameramen, as well as a sizable crowd of well-wishers greeted the royal family of three as they came out of the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital in west London.
Asked who the baby took after, Duke of Cambridge said "He's got her looks, thankfully."
The baby has a "good pair of lungs on him," he said, and felt "quite heavy" in his arms.
"We're still working on a name," the Duke said.
The new royal baby, who will be known as the "Prince of Cambridge" and is third in line to the throne, was delivered on Monday at 16:24, weighing 3.8 kg.
Capital London celebrated the arrival of the baby Prince with two 21-gun salutes fired in Green Park and at the Tower of London near the Buckingham Palace, while the bells sounded out for the royal birth at Westminster Cathedral.
The Duke and Duchess thanked the hospital staff who helped deliver their son, saying they and the baby received "tremendous" care.
"We would like to thank the staff at the Lindo Wing and the whole hospital for the tremendous care the three of us have received," the couple said in a statement.
Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, as well as Kate's parents Carol and Michael Middleton, paid a visit to their grandson, a first for both couples.
Prince Charles described the baby as "marvellous", while Mrs. Middleton said he was "absolutely beautiful".
The name of the baby is expected to be announced in the coming days.
