CAIRO
South Sudanese army spokesman Philip Aguer said Thursday that "reconciliation" and "dialogue" are the key to resolving the country's political crisis.
Addressing a press conference at the Journalists' Syndicate in Cairo, Auguer said reconciliation and political dialogue would help resolve the crisis in the world's nascent state.
The army spokesman accused sacked vice president Riek Machar of masterminding a military coup against President Salva Kiir on December 15, but the army had managed to retain control of the country.
South Sudanese ambassador Anthony Kon, for his part, Egypt was among the first countries to show solidarity with South Sudan.
South Sudan has been shaken by violence since last December, when Kiir accused Machar of standing behind a failed coup attempt.
The violence has already claimed more than 10,000 lives.
The UN estimates that some 3.7 million South Sudanese are now "severely food insecure," while more than 867,000 have been displaced by the fighting.
