Egyptian Minister of Defense Abdelfattah Said Elsisi on Tuesday warned that the current crisis and clashes could lead Egypt to downfall.
Elsisi gave a speech to the war academy students and said, "The social, economic and political problems and difficulties are threatening the safety of Egypt. The continuation of this crisis will affect the stability in the country and can pave the way for serious consequences" according to a written statement released by the armed forces.
Elsisi defined the Egyptian army as "a primary element in which governmental institutions are built upon" and stated that the Egyptian army would always remain strong and upright.
Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi earlier had declared a month-long state of emergency in three cities of Suez, Ismailia and Port Said after 49 died and over 1400 were injured at the protests of the second anniversary of Egyptian revolution and Port Said incidents.
