Death toll in China shoe factory collapse rises to 11

BEIJING

A shoe factory in China’s eastern Zhejiang province has collapsed, killing at least 11 workers.

State news agency Xinhua cited the Wenling city government as saying Sunday that three others remained missing while another 33 people -- including five who were not employees -- were injured when the accident occurred at around 4 p.m. (0900GMT) Saturday.

Of the 51 people reportedly working in the factory at the time, nine were able to escape.

More than 53 firefighting trucks, 302 rescuers and five sniffer dogs have been dispatched to the site. An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
