A factory fire in eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang on Tuesday has left 16 peopledead.
The fire broke out at 2:52 p.m. local time in a shoe factory in the northern part of Wenling and spread rapidly an area of 800 square meters, destroying the workshop and charring several homes in the neighborhood, the Xinhua news agency quoted local authorities as saying.
Twenty-nine fire engines and nearly 100 firefighters joined the rescue operation.
The fire was extinguished after three hours and more than 20 people had been rescued.
Firefighters are still searching for survivors.
An initial investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
