• Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the “accession” of four Ukrainian regions to Russia.
• Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said no to peace talks with Russia as long as Putin is president. Ukraine is applying for accelerated NATO membership, according to his office.
• The 27 EU member states “firmly” rejected and “unequivocally” condemned the illegal annexation of the Ukrainian regions by Russia.
• Türkiye said that it rejects Russia's decision to annex the regions just as it did not recognize the annexation of Crimea in 2014.
• Russia vetoed a UN Security Council resolution condemning a Moscow-backed "illegal" referendums to annex Ukraine's occupied territories.
• Washington and its allies are not going to be intimidated by Putin and his threats said US President Joe Biden after Moscow annexed the territories.
• Burkina Faso's military junta confirmed a second coup on national television that toppled the now-previous leader in power since January.
• The death toll climbed to 30 in a Russian attack on a humanitarian convoy in Zaporizhzhia, according to media reports.
• A suicide bomber blew himself up at an educational center in the Afghanistan capital of Kabul, killing at least 19 people and injuring 28 others.
• Türkiye conducted a military exercise with Azerbaijan, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan in the Turkish capital of Ankara.
• At least 19 people were killed after an angry mob stormed a police station in southeast Iran amid anti-regime protests.
• Denmark and Sweden informed the UN Security Council that the Nord Stream pipeline leaks were caused by blasts equal to “several hundred kilos of explosives,” said media reports.
