Anadolu Agency is here with a rundown of the latest developments on the coronavirus pandemic and other news in Turkiye and around the world.

Coronavirus and other developments in Turkiye

Turkiye reported more than 86,000 new coronavirus cases, according to new Health Ministry data.

The ministry confirmed 95,065 infections, 253 related deaths and 85,758 recoveries during the past day. As many as 458,142 virus tests were conducted across the country.

To counter the spread of the virus, Turkiye has administered more than 143.94 million coronavirus vaccine doses since it launched an immunization drive in January 2021.

In a telephone call, Turkish and Belarusian foreign ministers discussed a range of issues, including the latest developments regarding the Russia-Ukraine row.

Western countries must guard against making statements that could cause panic concerning the situation in Ukraine, according to Turkiye's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

Cavusoglu discussed the latest developments on the Ukrainian-Russian border with his Ukrainian counterpart as tensions rise with a Russian military build-up.


Other developments worldwide

Five people were killed when a fire broke out in a confectionary plant in northwestern Japan, according to media reports.

Bahrain confirmed that an Israeli navy officer will be stationed in the Gulf state.

Thousands of Yemenis rallied in the southwestern province of Taiz to mark the 11th anniversary of a popular revolution that toppled former President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Three UN employees were reportedly kidnapped in Abyan province in southern Yemen, according to a security official. The government confirmed the kidnappings.

The Association of Tunisia’s Judges urged President Kais Saied to reverse a decree to dissolve the top judicial watchdog.

British soldiers on a training mission in Ukraine are to leave the country this weekend amid reports of a possible imminent invasion by Russia.

US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone discussion one day after Washington warned that a Russian invasion of Ukraine could come “at any time,” said the White House. Biden told Putin that an invasion of Ukraine would lead to "widespread human suffering.”

Putin told his US counterpart he does not understand why the US president "knowingly gave false information on the invasion of Ukraine," the Kremlin said.

Putin and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron also spoke on the phone about the Ukraine crisis, according to the French presidency.

The EU and its member states will not close diplomatic missions in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv despite growing fears of an imminent Russian invasion, said the bloc’s top diplomat.

Forces from Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo have retaken Boga airfield from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels in eastern Congo, the army confirmed.

The Council of Ministers of the East African Community (EAC) approved the admission of the Democratic Republic of Congo to the regional bloc.
