ABUJA
At least 21 people were killed when an explosion rocked a shopping mall in Nigerian capital Abuja on Wednesday.
"So far, we can confirm 21 dead and 17 injured in the blast this afternoon," police spokesman Frank Mba told reporters.
He said that 17 cars were also damaged in the blast, the third in two months in the capital city.
Witnesses earlier told Anadolu Agency that the blast rocked Banex and Emab shopping plaza.
"I counted at least five as I made away from the scene," Ojo Kenny, an eyewitness who escaped by whisker, told AA.
Last week, Nigerian authorities said that insurgents were planning attacks in Abuja using petrol tankers.
