Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday called for an immediate halt to regional conflicts during a phone call with Nechirvan Barzani, the president of Iraq’s Kurdish Regional Government (KRG).
During the phone call, Erdogan conveyed his sympathies to Barzani over the attack on his residence, according to Türkiye's Communications Directorate.
The Turkish leader also emphasized that Ankara has always been against such attacks, and that the ongoing conflicts in the region should immediately be stopped.
The attack came as hostilities in the region have escalated since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive against Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,340 people to date, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Tehran has retaliated with waves of drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, inflicting casualties and infrastructure damage while disrupting global markets and aviation.
