Turkish ambassador in Libya offers condolences in wake of deadly Ankara plane crash
Ambassador Guven Begec conveys Türkiye’s condolences to senior Libyan officials after crash killed Libyan military delegation
TRIPOLI, Libya
Türkiye’s Ambassador to Libya Guven Begec paid condolence visits on Monday to senior Libyan officials following the deaths of a Libyan military delegation in a plane crash near the Turkish capital Ankara, the Turkish Embassy in Tripoli announced.
A jet carrying Libyan Chief of General Staff Mohammed Al-Haddad and his delegation crashed near the Haymana district on Dec. 23, killing five members of the military delegation and the flight crew.
In a statement on US social media company X, the Turkish Embassy said Begec and his delegation met with Abdullah Al-Lafi, the vice president of Libya’s Presidential Council, in the capital Tripoli.
The council also confirmed the visit, noting that Begec conveyed the condolences of the Turkish government and people to the Presidential Council, Al-Lafi, and the Libyan people, expressing deep sorrow over Libya’s painful loss.
The Turkish ambassador also visited Mohammed Tekele, the head of Libya’s High Council of State, to offer condolences over the victims of the crash.
