Source of legitimacy in Türkiye is the people’s will: Turkish parliament speaker
Numan Kurtulmus emphasizes people’s central role as source of political legitimacy in Türkiye

ANKARA
Türkiye’s parliament speaker on Friday emphasized the centrality of the people’s will in Turkish politics.
“The source of legitimacy in Türkiye is the will of the people. No domestic or foreign actor can provide legitimacy to Turkish politics apart from the people’s will,” Numan Kurtulmus said in parliament.
Separately, he spoke on the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Committee, which was established by parliament to assess the post-terror era and aims to recognize and confirm the dissolution of the terrorist group PKK.
This July, a group of 30 PKK terrorists surrendered and destroyed their weapons in Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah province by throwing them into a cauldron.
Kurtulmus said a meeting could be held in which the head of the National Intelligence Organization, or MIT, and relevant Cabinet ministers, including the justice and foreign ministers, would once again evaluate the general framework from their perspectives.
Asked about the committee’s schedule, he said it had initially set Dec. 31 for its conclusion, but it has been given the authority to extend its work in two-month increments if necessary.
The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the US, and the EU, convened a congress in May and announced its dissolution, following a February call by its imprisoned ringleader, Abdullah Ocalan, for an end to their decades of attacks.
