HATAY, Türkiye

The panic among rescue teams from an aftershock as they worked at the site of a collapsed building in quake-hit Türkiye was caught on camera by Anadolu.

Aftershocks that have been occurring from time to time have negatively affected search and rescue operations at collapsed buildings or in the debris.

The moment of panic among the American and French rescue teams was recorded as they were attempting to pull three people thought to be alive out of the debris of a destroyed building in Antakya district.

Turkish rescue volunteers also had to interrupt an interview with Anadolu at the time of the tremor.

Following a short break, the American and French teams resumed digging through the collapsed building.

At least 29,605 people were killed by last week’s two powerful earthquakes that jolted southern Türkiye, the country's disaster agency said Sunday.

Last Monday’s magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaras province affected more than 13 million people across 10 provinces, including Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye and Sanliurfa.

More than 233,000 search and rescue personnel are currently working in the field, according to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).

Several countries in the region, including Syria and Lebanon, also felt the strong tremors that struck Türkiye in the space of less than 10 hours.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday that the history of Türkiye is being challenged by one of its biggest quake disasters.

Condolences have poured in from around the world expressing solidarity with Türkiye, with many countries sending rescue teams and aid.
