5 FETO suspects trying to flee to Greece nabbed in Türkiye
Police capture suspects in Uzunkopru district of Edirne province
EDIRNE, Türkiye
Turkish security forces caught five suspected members of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) in western Edirne province, as they tried to escape to Greece, local authorities said on Friday.
In a statement, the provincial governor’s office said police captured the suspects in a car in Uzunkopru district after learning they were preparing to flee abroad.
The driver of the car was also detained for allegedly smuggling migrants.
FETO orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, in Türkiye, in which 251 people were killed and 2,734 injured.
Ankara accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions; particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
