RIZE
Turkey's Minister of Transportation, Maritime Affairs, and Communications, Binali Yildirim on Sunday said that they would connect the Black Sea with the Mediterranean Sea by building new highways in the next five years.
Speaking at a groundbreaking ceremony for the Ovit tunnel and connecting roads in Sivrikaya village of Ikizdere town in the north-eastern Rize province on Sunday, Minister Yildirim said that today was a very special day, in fact a feast, at the Ovit Mountain.
It was back in 1880 that the Ottoman Sultan Abdulaziz mentioned the construction of a road between Rize and north-eastern province of Erzurum. Many administrations came to power in Turkey since then. But it was the Justice and Development (AK) Party administration that turned this dream into a reality, Yildirim stressed.
Yildirim also said that they would connect the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea by building new highways by 2017.
