BURSA, Turkey
Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc said Friday night that the government will make a brief constitution with fundamental rights and new frameworks, including a presidential system, following the June 7 general elections.
"This new constitution will be a brief one. It will not be like an encyclopedia or give recipes," said Arinc, speaking in a conference in western city of Bursa.
Turkish government has set its eyes on a new constitution following a possible victory with a sufficient number of seats in the parliament. The parliamentary commission's talk over making a new constitution since 2011 failed after disagreements over most of the proposals.
Turkey had gone to polls in 2010 to vote for amendments in the constitution.
Arinc, also government spokesman, said that a proposal on a presidential or a semi-presidential government will be included in the constitution that the government seeks.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the first president elected with popular vote, has called on voters to support his bid for a presidential system in the upcoming elections on Friday, in a speech at an eastern province of Elazig.
