ANKARA
Turkey's two opposition leaders met Friday to discuss a candidate to run in the Turkish presidential elections scheduled for August 10th.
Discussions focused on "the political criteria for the nominee" not on one particular name, said Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader and Devlet Bahceli, the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader.
MHP previously said that they wished to present a joint candidate, with other opposition parties, who can "embrace the entire nation" at the presidential election.
Both leaders have been in talks with non-governmental organizations and trade bodies to discuss who they will nominate.
It will be the first time that Turkey's president will be elected by direct popular vote.
A candidate needs more than 50 percent of the popular vote to be elected in the first round.
If no candidate receives the required percentage, there will be a second round on August 24 between the two candidates who received the most votes in the first.
