Turkey’s Anadolu Agency (AA) has provided its subscribers with 4,470 news stories, over 2,300 photos and 422 video footages covering the Soma mine accident, in which 284 people have reportedly died so far.
Anadolu Agency was one of the first news organizations to provide both Turkey and the world with images of the accident.
News stories covering state protocol, visits by politicians and the situations of families in Soma, by AA were widely published in the global media in several languages such as Turkish, English, Russian, Arabic, Kurdish, Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian and French.
Anadolu Agency’s desk in Turkey’s third largest city Izmir has three photojournalists, four cameramen and six reporters on duty following the developments in Soma.
The agency's Director-General and Chairman of the Board Kemal Ozturk visited the scene of the coal mine blast on Friday and met Turkey's Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz at the crisis management center at the mine as well as the AA team following the disaster.
