ANKARA
Turkish citizens have been recommended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to leave the Iraqi province of Basra.
A statement released on Monday by the ministry said that, due to ongoing and increasing violence in Iraq, Turkey has decided to re-evaluate the status of Basra, which was not included in a previous list comprising Iraqi provinces deemed dangerous for Turkish nationals.
The ministry warned Turkish citizens in Mosul, Kirkuk, Salahuddin, Diyala, Anbar, Baghdad and Basra provinces to immediately leave the country, saying no progress had been made towards ensuring greater security in Iraq while acts of violence over sectarian divisions had escalated with clashes spreading rapidly across the country.
