THE HAGUE
President Abdullah Gul said every type of opinions could be seen in countries that backed pluralism, but Anti-semitism led to such incidents that could not even be imagined before the World War II.
"If anti-Islam policies are misused for political purposes, they can be dangerous, they can spread and cannot be taken under control," Gul told a joint press conference with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte in The Hague.
Gul said everyone had to be careful about Islamophobic developments.
Moreover, Gul said he would be proud if all Turkish citizens used their democratic rights and noted that Turkey was correcting its mistakes or shortcomings in democratic rights when they occurred.
Rutte, in his part, said they also discussed reforms regarding Turkish army in their meeting.
Turkey's president meets Dutch lawmakers
Turkey's President Abdullah Gul visited on Wednesday Dutch Senate and House of Representatives in The Hague.
Gul proceeded from Amsterdam to The Hague, some 70 kilometers in the south of the capital, by highway and met Senate President Fred de Graaf and House of Representatives President Gerdi Verbeet.
During the meeting, Gul said Turks living in the Netherlands established a bridge between the two countries, and noted that he was proud that Labor Party lawmaker Nebahat Albayrak was elected the head of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Dutch Parliament.
Gul said Albayrak's position was a good example to show how loyal Turks living in the Netherlands were to this country.
